Cambrie Mae's Birth Story

Oh sweet Cambrie Mae decided to surprise us all with a bit of an early arrival.  I just love her for that!  She didn't want to be planned for in any way and so continued her trend.  The whole pregnancy I told Matt that she was going to come early, but he never believed me. I was scheduled for a C-section on Tuesday, December 18th.  We had plans for our families to come up Monday night and be here when she arrived.  However, when I woke up Saturday morning with contractions and after the week we had I knew she was coming sometime and it would be before Tuesday.

Here's a little background info on the week before she was born.  We ALL had some sort of weird fever virus that took us each out for about 36 hours separately.  So basically someone was sick all week.  I was the last to get sick and was sick Thursday night/all day Friday.  Then we get a call Wednesday night/Thursday morning that Matt's uncle had passed away.  We knew that this was coming but you are never prepared for a call like that.  After much discussion, prayer and tears we decided Matt should go to the funeral so he left Friday morning and came back Saturday evening.  Thankfully a sweet friend kept Cade all day Friday so I could rest and my sister drove up Friday evening to stay with us just in case.  So glad she did!!!

Back to Saturday, December 15, Matt is gone and I woke up with contractions about 20 minutes apart.   I had been having contractions off and on for weeks, but these were for real!  I was excited about her possibly coming sooner than expected but slightly concerned that Matt was 5 hours away.  So I just pretended it wasn't happening and went about my day.  My sister and I took the boys for a quick Target run for a few last minute essentials then came home for lunch and naps.  That afternoon the contractions picked up and were coming every 7-10 minutes.  This is the point were I began to freak out a bit more.  Matt had just left for home but he still had 5 hours to go.  Around 4 they started coming about every 5-7 minutes and I finally told my sister what was happening....no need to freak her out for no reason:) My friend, Abby, was on call to watch the boys and I was praying Matt would make it home soon.  He got home around 6 and the contractions slowed down to about 7 minutes apart, but were getting more intense.  He ate a quick dinner, we got the boys settled with a movie with Aunt Kaci and decided to just head up to the hospital to see what was going on.

We arrived at the hospital around 7:15ish Saturday night.  We had called both our parents and my parents were getting in the car to come up.  Once we got checked in and on the monitor the nurse informed me that I was severely dehydrated and that what was causing the contractions.  She said we could just get fluids in me and there would be no baby tonight.  So we called my parents and told them to head back home and it was just a false alarm.  We also called my sister to tell her to go ahead and put the boys down.  Cade was not really ever convinced it was a false alarm but eventually went to sleep anyway.  After drinking several glasses of water and juice in an hour and still dehydrated I was put on IV fluids.  My contractions still hadn't calmed down much and after the first bag of fluid they seemed to be getting a bit stronger.  At this point I decided I wasn't going to let them send me home without a baby and they better come back and say they were taking her tonight!  After the second bag of fluids, I was still having contractions and had progressed quite a bit in an hour, the nurse called my doctor.  She came back in and said we're having the baby in an hour.  It was about 11:30pm that that point. WHAT?!  Ok then.  So Matt frantically calls everyone.  My mom is mad that they didn't stay on the road so my brother drives her, my dad and Matt's mom up in the middle of the night!  Crazy!  I get all prepped for surgery and little Miss Cambrie Mae greeted us at 12:47 am on December 16.  It was a crazy day!

Finally holding my sweet baby girl!

Love at first sight

Our parents made it to our house around 5am and once the boys woke up they got everyone ready and headed up to meet our sweet girl.  Cade was beside himself and was so glad his sister was finally here!  So instead of being born on December 18th we brought Cambrie Mae home that day which was much better if you ask me!

I'm secretly hoping that when we have a 2nd baby that he or she will come before my planned c-section date. I will definitely be having a planned c-section, but it makes me kind of sad to have it totally planned. I would love to still be surprised with a baby the "normal" way like everyone else, but then skip the labor and go straight to the OR. So glad Miss C is here and healthy!!
